Marketing A CVA Business

After you get an online presence, you need to start thinking about marketing your website as well as your business.  Marketing is NOT advertising.  Marketing is more about getting to know people and getting your name in front of the right people.

There are several ways to market your business such as online and offline networking. I will only touch briefly on online networking.

Online Networking

There are many online networking sites such as Ryze, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The biggest rule to follow when online networking is do not start by advertising your business.  People will frown on this and you will lose credibility very quickly.  A few pointers when online networking:

  • Create a profile-make sure your profile is professional, complete, and pertains to business. No pictures of you in a bikini, drunk etc
  • Ask to connect-if you find a person that has some of your same interests ask them to connect with you
  • Don’t lurk-make sure to be proactive and not inactive  If you do not get out there and answer questions or offer opinions, nobody will know you even exist.
  • Don’t Sell-as stated earlier do not just go in and start selling your services to people.  If somebody asks about your business then you can tell them about it but don’t start a conversation about it.
  • Be friendly-do not post just to start an argument.  It will eventually be assumed that you are argumentative and you will lose potential clients

There are many other rules to follow when online networking but these are the most basic.  If you follow these rules, you may just be on the fast track to success.
